Nutrient Content

We eat food not only to satisfy our hunger but also to obtain all the essential nutrients required to perform all our body functions. In short, we consume food to get the required nutrients. The nutrient content of the plant and animal based food products are different. For example, animal based food products like meat is an excellent source of fats, and you will not be able to obtain this nutrient from any plant product. However, there is a large quantity of carbohydrates in plant based food to substitute the requirement of fats.

Amount Of Consumption

The amount of consumption of food products to get the essential quantity of nutrients is different for plant and animal diet. For example, calcium and protein are abundant in animal based products and very low in plant based diets. Therefore, a person will have to consume more plant food to get the required amount of these nutrients. In addition to that, some studies have proved that excess consumption of animal products like meat can adversely affect health. However, there is no similar risk for people following a plant diet.

Absorption Capacity

Some studies conducted on people having vegetarian and non-vegetarian diets have proved that their digestive mechanism can differ. It does not mean that they have different types of digestive systems, but their absorption rates differ. In those studies, it was found that the absorption system in non-vegetarians is more efficient, that is, they can absorb more nutrients compared to vegan and vegetarians. However, having additional vitamin C or fiber-rich food products will increase the absorption rate and helps in reducing the digestion time for vegans and vegetarians.

If you are comparing these two types of food habits, you must understand that the plant based diet is always better than animal based ones because it contains all the essential nutrients and helps you lead a healthy life.
